Living In A Wasteland
That’s right I live in a wasteland. Of course not strictly by definition. There are amazing amounts of cultivated land, oranges, grapes, many varieties of nuts, the list is endless. However, everywhere I go, sucks. Let me explain.
Last night, I was on my way home from work. I set the cruse control (best creation ever) and sat back and navigated my way through the 15 miles or so to my house. During this time, I enjoying Kalai’s A Pauper’s Hymnalon my radio. I know what your thinking, “Hymns?” Kalai is an amazing artist and does a great job with the music, trust me. Anyway, listening to the tunes, I was looking at my surroundings and noticed something. Wasteland. Nothing but wasteland. Everywhere you look, nothing but brown, dead nothingness. Everywhere you look, there are oil rigs and brown. Man I hate it, all of it.
Weekend Getaway
Christina and I spent our 3 year anniversary in the best possible way. Out of town and away from the boys. We ran off to Cambria and San Simeon to check out Hearst Castle. Most people (living outside of California) don’t even know about this place. One of the most incredible places you could imagine. Mr. Hearst was a news paper and movie studio tycoon. If you can, I highly recommend a visit.
Anyway, on our way home we stoped off at a few wineries and a brewery in Paso Robles. We bought 6 bottles of 2005 reserve Cabernet from Maridean and 6 different bottles from Tobin James. Included in our stops was also Robert Hall. Christina had never been wine tasting (and she has lived 2 hours from Paso her whole life) so I made sure she got the best out of our trip. We also took a cavern tour of Robert Hall that was amazing.
As for the brewery, Firestone, we stopped for a tour but they had canceled them both because of welding work. I was really bummed. They were cool about it and let me take a few pictures anyway. So we sat down and had a pint (of course). I was shocked to find that Christina really liked the IPA (Indian Pale Ale). An IPA is a bit strong for most people, but out of the four we sampled, that was the one she liked best. So we walked out there with a 64 oz growler.
We had a great time last weekend and have plans to head back that way with some friends for another weekend of castle tours and great glasses of wine… and beer.
I will post pictures as soon as I get this blog figured out and setup the way I want it to look.
So, any great getaway spots you like to run off to?
A New Adventure
I read so many different blogs throughout the web that I thought I may try one myself. So here goes…
This will be a place I post random thoughts, stuff on sports, religion, family, just about anything I want I guess. I will try to end each post with questions to the readers too. I would love to get feedback from whoever does read this stuff. So for now, here we go…
Does anyone have any recommendations for the continuation and success of running a blog that people want to read?
